“26 THINGS TO DO WITH THE ALPHABET”
with Internationally Acclaimed Artist Cherryl Moote

February 6, 7, 8, 9, 2018
(Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday)
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
DaySpring Retreat Center, Bradenton

This workshop will be limited to 12 students and there will be a nominal materials fee.

Letters can be used in a myriad of ways and in this workshop we will explore at least 26 of them!  This is a guided tour through the wonderful world of calligraphic peripherals.  Keeping ourselves firmly grounded in letters we will try experiments with writing tools, writing mediums, writing surfaces and a plethora of art and craft techniques.

We will try bookbinding, card making, drawing, practice techniques (yes, practicing), sculpting, pop-up, silhouetting, cutting, frottage, mail art, applique, quilting, collage, chine colie, pouchoir, carving, bargello, aging . . . all of the techniques you have been dying to try but never had the time, space, or materials to do before.  You will learn so many things to do with an alphabet and so much about tools and materials that the years ahead will be filled to overflowing with good ideas to explore.

Cost:

Commuters:  $215 includes tuition & 4 lunches
(brown bags not allowed on site).
Overnighters:  $405 includes tuition, shared room and meals

Materials Fee Update:
The added bonus for Cherryl Moote’s “26 THINGS TO DO WITH THE ALPHABET” is that most of the papers, materials, and tools will be provided through a $40 materials fee, so you will only need to bring a basic calligraphy and paper crafting (cutting knife, ruler & mat) kit with you.  The work done during this 4-day workshop will be housed in a book easily mastered by beginners and completed in class.
You will only need to bring a notebook or sketchbook and 10-15 pieces of decorated (think paste paper), distinctive or natural paper no larger than 8” x 10” along with your basic toolbox supplies.
Remember: we share.
Members can contact Fred Reckker with any questions. Fred has been involved in the calligraphic arts since the 70s and this has been one of the BEST workshops he has ever taken.
